We're taking some time to acknowledge and apprecia We're taking some time to acknowledge and appreciate those who have shown continued commitment to our Parity on Board Coalition and are fierce promoters of increasing diversity on Massachusetts public boards and commissions. Today, we're highlighting Shaitia Spruell, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, who shared with us why she chose to be a member of the Parity on Board coalition. "My name is Shaitia Spruell, she/hers, and I am the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women (MSCW). I come to this work having served as a regional and state commissioner, and now the youngest ED in the history of an organization that both nurtured me and taught me about the power of the legislative process and civic engagement. We’re an independent state agency that was created through legislation in 1998. We may be just 25 years old, but in our short history, we’ve championed dozens of pieces of legislation that have changed the lives of women and girls across the Commonwealth. Our charge is to advance women and girls toward full equity in all areas of life and to promote rights and opportunities for all women and girls. As a teen mom and young woman of color, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the mentors and leaders who shaped, guided, and invested in me along the way. That is why I am proud to be a part of the Parity on Board coalition. MCSW stands in solidarity with individuals and organizations across the Commonwealth who are committed to achieving gender parity in our workplaces, in our paychecks, and ensuring our collective leadership in business and government more broadly reflects the demographics of our Commonwealth. Nothing about us without us!"
